She Who Believes, Leads

“Confidence is a choice. Choose wisely.”

Hey Friend,

Not too long ago, I found myself mentally cueing the Beyoncé wind machine before walking into a boardroom. In my mind, I was walking in with hair blowing, spotlight on, fireworks going off and a full crowd of screaming fans!

Was I extra? Absolutely.
Was it necessary? Absolutely.

Sometimes leadership requires a lil’ performance energy. Not because you're being fake, but because you're reminding yourself who you are.

When the stakes are high, the inbox is out of control, and imposter syndrome whispers (or yells), “Are you sure you're supposed to be here?”…you better believe I’m channeling my inner Queen Bey, or heck, even Olivia Pope (minus the scandals).

We all have those alter egos - those powerful parts of us that we summon when the real-life version feels a little undercharged or on empty.

The key?
Knowing when to call them forward.
And also knowing when it’s time to come back to center.

So, this week, we’re talking (leadership) alter egos, the quiet cues your body gives you, and why being your own hype squad is a leadership essential.

Let’s gooooo.

ON THE RADAR

The Not-So-Obvious Things That Are Actually Draining You

You’re showing up (check). You’re holding it down (check).
But if you’re not careful, you’ll mistake “productivity” for peace.

Here’s what I’ve been noticing in my world, and maybe yours too:

  • The “performance” of confidence is exhausting when you haven’t poured into the real you lately. Put the following on your to-do list, smack dab at the top spot, and say it out loud a few times: I will pour into myself!

  • Saying yes when your gut says no is a trust issue, not with others, but with yourself.

  • Wearing your alter ego too long (aka - not being authentically you) leaves the real you undernourished and under-seen.

  • Over-functioning for others might make you a “go-to,” but at what cost?

This week, take inventory…not of your tasks, but of your truths.
What’s fueling you… and what’s quietly (or not so quietly) depleting your light?

Elle Woods

MOVIE: Legally Blonde (2001)
Before you roll your eyes, hear me out. Elle Woods might’ve looked like she belonged in a salon or a Barbie movie, but she did have Harvard Law on her résumé and a killer bend-and-snap! This film is the ultimate alter ego pep talk. It reminds us that (your unique) style, smarts, and self-belief can (and should) coexist. Watch it when you need to hype yourself up before the meeting, the next pitch, or the season you weren’t quite ready for but find yourself navigating through.

Something to Sit With

"Which version of me do I need to call forward right now and is she showing up for me, or for the performance?"

Your alter ego is a tool, not a mask.
Use her wisely. She’s powerful.
But don’t forget…you’re the power source.
